A House Through Time

There are houses we simply live in, and others that seem to have travelled through the centuries while holding on to something of those who once lived there.

Au Fil du Temps is one of those places.

Built and transformed between the 16th and 19th centuries, this former Alsatian farmhouse was for generations a place of both home and work, shaped in particular by its wine-growing past. Its different buildings, large courtyard, woodwork and generous proportions still tell the story of the generations who lived here.

When we first discovered the house, our wish was not to transform it, but to preserve its soul while bringing it back to life. The restoration was therefore carried out with deep respect for its architecture and history, favouring old materials, traditional craftsmanship and everything that could be preserved or reused.

Inside, time continues to leave its mark. Antique furniture, paintings, collected and inherited objects, fabrics and woodwork create an interior that does not attempt to recreate the past, but simply allows it to enter into conversation with the present.

Each room has its own character and story. Some even carry the memory of those who shaped the house before us.

Today, Au Fil du Temps has become a guest house, but above all it remains a living home. Meals are shared here, guests are welcomed, people gather around the table, the garden is opened, and the seasons are celebrated.

We like to think that every guest who crosses the threshold adds, in their own way, a few lines to this long story.

Because here, true luxury may simply be this: spending a few days in a house with a memory.

A Garden Between Nature and Imagination


Behind the historic buildings of Au Fil du Temps, another world reveals itself.

Across almost 4,000 m², the garden has gradually grown into a free-flowing, romantic landscape inspired by the spirit of English gardens.

Hundreds of rose bushes mingle with perennials, trees and plants from the kitchen garden; a greenhouse is hidden among the greenery, a pond welcomes dragonflies and frogs, while numerous shelters and natural refuges have been preserved for birds, hedgehogs, squirrels and the garden’s other inhabitants.

The walk begins in the farmhouse’s large courtyard, beneath the branches of a majestic old chestnut tree. Then the paths lead away from the house, and the garden gradually becomes more secluded and secret.
For at Au Fil du Temps, nature also meets the world of imagination.

Around a bend in the path, enchanting castles and miniature villages appear, tiny worlds hidden among the plants. Further on, concealed within the greenery, the Witch’s House seems to have stepped straight out of a fairy tale.

These creations pay tribute to the stories, beliefs and folk legends of Alsace, a region where forests, ruins and villages have nourished for centuries a world of wonder that can be both luminous and mysterious.

But the garden is not a fixed backdrop. It lives with the seasons and with those who inhabit it. The roses give way to autumn colours, the kitchen garden changes, the birds return, the leaves disappear and then emerge again.
Benches, tables and hidden corners invite you to pause along the way. To sit. To observe. To listen.

And perhaps to rediscover that part of childhood which once made us believe that at the end of a path, behind a tree or beside a pond, another world might still exist.
